Marion was born on June 16th, 1885 in Honolulu.¹

Marion's father was John Thomas Waterhouse Jr and her mother was Elizabeth Bourn Pinder. Her paternal grandparents were Rev John Thomas Waterhouse and Eleanor Dickenson; her maternal grandparents were Thomas Pinder and Elizabeth Jordan. She had five brothers and four sisters, named Frederick, Ernest, John, George, Gustavus, Emma, Elizabeth, Eleanor and Margaret. She was the second youngest of the ten children.
