William was born in 1798 and his baptism took place on December 27th, 1798 in St Matthew`s Church, Hayfield.1  William's father was James Turner and his mother was Nancy Gaskell.  His paternal grandparents were Edward Turner and Leah. He had a brother named John.  He was the younger of the two children.
