John was born in 1797 and his baptism took place on June 25th, 1797 in St Matthew`s Church, Hayfield.1  John's father was James Turner and his mother was Nancy Gaskell.  His paternal grandparents were Edward Turner and Leah. He had a brother named William.  He was the older of the two children.
