Jane's father was Stephen Staniland and her mother was Jane Barley.  Her paternal grandparents were John Staniland and Ann Pattrick; her maternal grandparents were John Barley and Ann Taylor. She had a brother and a sister, named John and Ann. She had three half-brothers and a half-sister, named George, Thomas, Thomas and Elizabeth.
