Rebecca's father was Joseph Shambrook and her mother was Charlotte Distill.  Her paternal grandparents were Daniel Shambrook and Maria Lane; her maternal grandparents were James Distill and Ann Beach. She had two brothers and two sisters, named Arthur, George, Ellen and Eliza.  She was the oldest of the five children.  She died at the age of 87 in 1941.
