Eliza was born in 1837 in Potters Bar, Middlesex.1  Eliza's father was Daniel Shambrook and her mother was Maria Lane.  Her paternal grandparents were James Shambrook and Elizabeth. She had five brothers and five sisters, named William, Daniel, Joseph, David, Benjamin, Ann, Maria, Mary, Rebecca and Charlotte.  She was the fourth youngest of the eleven children.
