Arthur's father was Joseph Shambrook and his mother was Charlotte Distill. His paternal grandparents were Daniel Shambrook and Maria Lane; his maternal grandparents were James Distill and Ann Beach. He had a brother and three sisters, named George, Rebecca, Ellen and Eliza. He was the third oldest of the five children. He died at the age of 57 on September 16th, 1918 in Kings College Hospital London SE5.²
