Richard was born in 1824 in Halton Yorkshire and his baptism took place on May 14th, 1820 in Whitkirk.1 2  Richard's father was William Rollisson and his mother was Mary Pickersgill.  His maternal grandparents were John Pickersgill and Sarah Jagger. He had a brother.  He died at the age of 56 in 1880.

Richard and Sophia were married in a religious ceremony on August 30th, 1852 in Leeds by Edw. Jackson, Clerk in Orders and witnessed by Charles Rollisson, Rachel Hemingway.3  They had three sons and three daughters, named Alfred, William, Fred., Ellen, Ann and Sarah.
