Jane's father was Thomas Pinder and her mother was Elizabeth Jordan. Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Pinder and Edith Bourne. She had three brothers and two sisters, named Thomas, Joseph, John, Elizabeth and Mary. She was the second oldest of the six children.
