Ellen was born in 1792 in Cawthorne S Yorkshire and her baptism took place on December 25th, 1792 in Cawthorne by Barnsley.1 2  Ellen's father was John Marshall and her mother was Sophia Senier.  Her paternal grandparents were Edward Marshall and Sarah Hattersley; her maternal grandfather was George Senior (Taylor) and her maternal grandmother is <Unknown>. She had three brothers and four sisters, named George, John, Timothy, Rachael, Susannah, Mary and Sophia.  She died at the age of 67 in 1859.

Ellen and John were married in a religious ceremony on August 19th, 1811 in Cawthorne by Barnsley witnessed by Jonas P*ley, Benj. Batty.4   They had two sons and six daughters, named William, Isaac, Ellen, Sophia, Rachel, Ann, Elizabeth and Mary.
