Michael was born in 1815 in Norwood, Surrey and his baptism took place on December 17th, 1815 in St John Baptist, Croydon.^1 2

Michael's father was Michael Letts and his mother was Lucy Apted.  His paternal grandparents were WM. LITZ OR LETTS and Mary Best. He had two brothers and five sisters, named James, William, Hannah, Frances, Lucy, Amy and Sarah.  He died at the age of 69 in 1884.
