William was born in 1813 and his baptism took place on November 7th, 1813 in Saint Peter, Huddersfield, Yorkshire, England. William's father was John Hemingway and his mother was Ellen Marshall.  His maternal grandparents were John Marshall and Sophia Senier. He had a brother and six sisters, named Isaac, Ellen, Sophia, Rachel, Ann, Elizabeth and Mary.
