Robert was born before 1715. Robert's father was Andrew Flatt and his mother was Elizabeth.  His paternal grandparents were Andrew Flatt and Mary. He had five brothers and two sisters, named John, William, Joseph, Peter, Richard, Mary and Hannah.  He was the oldest of the eight children.
