Jane was born in December 1874 in South Shields.1   Jane's father was Charles Edward Drake and her mother was Sarah Jane Fenton.  Her maternal grandparents were William Fenton and Hannah Wood.  She was an only child.

Jane and Charles were married in a religious ceremony in June 1903 in West Ham.1
