Francis' father was William Bainbridge and his mother was Sarah Quickfall.  His maternal grandparents were Samuel Quickfall and Elizabeth. He had five brothers and six sisters, named William, Samuel, Edward, John, John, Ann, Margaret, Sarah, Helen, Hannah and Jane.  He was the youngest of the twelve children.
