  • "Thomas Kyrton seized of the Lands of South Petherton & Lamings (sic) Court, died 30th (sic) May, 25 Henry VIII (1533) leaving Richard, son & heir, aged 31."(ibid. p.102) This Richard(2) Kyrton, son of Thomas, is shown as having married an Elizabeth, because Richard(2) Kirton's Inquest Post Mortem (Smith, ibid, p. 101) states:- "Held at Wells, co. Somerset 6 Sept., 5 & 6 Philip and Mary (1557) Richard Kyrton seized of the Manors of Frome Eggford & of Frome died 22 April last (1557) leaving Christopher, son & heir aged 30, and Elizabeth his wife surviving - On 19 Jan. of 37 Henry VIII (1545) George Rodney, armiger and Thomas Whyte were seized of the above Manors as Trustees for the said Richard & his wife Elizabeth and their Heirs."  Richard(2) Kirton was already a brother-in-law to George Rodney, by his sister's marriage to George, but it also appears from the Smith MSS, (Vol. 36, p. 100) that Richard(2) Kirton was also married to a relative of George Rodney's, possibly his sister, who is also named by Smith as being "Elizabeth Rodney".
