Joseph was born on August 23rd, 1573.  Joseph's father was Edward KIRTON and his mother was Letyce (Lettice) Gilbank.  His paternal grandparents were John KIRTON and Elizabeth Andros. He had ten brothers and four sisters, named Daniell, Samuel, John, James, William, Edward, Stephen, Josias, Virgill, Francis, Elizabethe, Sibble, Susan and Alice.  He was the thirteenth oldest of the fifteen children.
