        William Gibbens was from a Somerset family. This is the will of a young-ish man, his unnamed father is dead, but his mother is still alive and all his brothers and sisters are as are his wife`s sisters. I am guessing that his children are small and that is why his wife is executor and his father in law an overseer. Hence the clause if neither child survives, as children of course very often did not. William's son Thomas went on to be a MP for Exeter.
    
    I William Gibbens of Holcomb Rogus in the diocese of Exon, Imprimis I give unto the poor of Holcomb Rogus five shillings ; Item to the poor of Tiverton 10/- . Item I give to my son Thomas £200 and £50 whereof £100 be paid within a year next following to be put to his use which £100 fflorrymeade is to be sold for and the rest after the death of my wife to be paid unto him. Item I give unto my daughter Thomas[ine] Gibbens one hundred and three score pounds whereof £10 must be paid within the year the other £150 to be paid after the death of my wife Johane, My will is that if either of my children die before they be of years having no issue then that portion to remain with that other remaining child And if it doth happen that both my children die before the monies are payable Then my will is that my wife shall have £100 to dispose of at her pleasure and the rest to be divided between my brothers and sisters in equal portions. Item I give unto my daughter Thomasine a salt of silver gilt which was given unto me by my father and which is now in my mother`s custody. Item I give unto my mother five shilllings. Item I give unto my sisters two shillings a piece Item I give unto my brother Robert Gibbens my best suit of apparell Item I give unto Philip Gibbens my brother my best riding coat Item I give unto my brother Thomas Gibbens my mourning cloak Item I give to Honor Zeale my silver boll [bowl] that I use to drink in Item unto the rest of my wife her sisters one shilling a piece. All the rest of my goods not before given or bequeathed I give unto my wife in this manner All my stock and effects without doors as kine horses or any other cattell and all my corn to be at the pleasure and disposing of my wife All of my goods indoors my will is that my wife shall have the use thereof during her life and after her death my son Thomas is to have it all entire. I make my wife Johane my sole executor of this my last will and testament. Also I give unto my father in law Francis Kirton [?] and Mr Thomas Zeale five shillings a piece whom I desire to be the overseers of my will and I also entreat Richard Warre to be one of my overseers. Sept 28th 1617 Memorandum that this will was thus altered 29 May 1618 according to the will and desire of the said Wm Gibbens in the presence of us John Noris John Balls [smudged] Brewfford, John Balls and Robert Golls.
