Danyell (Daniell) KIRTON

• General Notes
  • Edward Kirton (Senior), a lawyer from Almesford/Ansford, co. Somerset, b. c. 1530, who in 1568 was resident in London with his wife, Letyce or Lettice (nee Gilbank). This couple had 11 sons:-
    
    1.Danyell Kirton, b.c. 1555 (in 1568 living in London aged 13), d.  1594;
    
    Born probably in London, recorded as living in London aged 13

    Manor House and Park
    The demesne, including mansion and park, was let to the Kirton family, possibly by the mid 16th  century. The
    house was occupied by Lettice (d. 1620), widow of Edward Kirton, and mother of Sir James Kirton, recorder
    of Wells (d. 1620) who died shortly before her. Under Sir James’s will it passed to his nephew Edward Kirton
    (d. c. 1655), son of Daniel 65  but was occupied by another nephew, James Kirton, son of William, and in 1639 by James’s estranged wife Joan. James, a Royalist captain, had his estate sequestrated 1645 and was said
    to be ‘distracted’.66
    From 1661 house and park were occupied by farmers and were bought by Nathaniel Webb (d. 1782)
