Alice Blanchard

• General Notes
  • Thomas Kirton was the only son of Richard Kirton, third son of Stephen  Kirton of Wooton, Wilts. (Visitation of London, 1568). Thomas had  inherited lands in Wiltshire from his father, and also from his  mother, Alice (nee Blanchard), a 1/6th. share of the Manor of  Warminster (VCH Wilts., Vol. VIII, p.99 Warminster Hundred -  Warminster). Thomas died between 20 - 30 May, 25 Hen. VIII (1533-4)  "Inquisition Post Mortem held at W---- (prob. Wells), co. Somerset 5  Nov., 23 Hen. VIII (1533-4) - Thomas Kirton seized of Lands at South
    Petherton & Lanings Court & Kilmersdon, co. Somerset, died 20th. May,  25 Hen. VIII, leaving Richard his Son and nearest Heir 31 years  old." (Smith MSS, Soc. of Genealogists, London, Vol.36, p.103) and  "Escheator Acts - Somerset & Dorset", 24 & 25 Henry VIII. "Thomas  Kyrton seized of the Lands of South Petherton & Lamings (sic) Court,
    died 30th (sic) May, 25 Henry VIII, leaving Richard, son and heir,  aged 31." (ibid. p.102)

    The Thomas Blanchard who lived in the mid15th century married Agnes, daughter and coheir of William Mohun of Warminster,  (fn. 11)  and left an only daughter Alice who married Richard Kirton.  (fn. 12) He did suit to the court of Steeple Ashton in 1498.   (fn. 13)  Alice was a widow by 1508.    (fn. 14)
