Petrus Gerhardus was born on February 6th, 1818 in Doornkraal, Caledon and his baptism took place on March 22nd, 1818 in Caledon.1  Petrus Gerhardus' father was Douw Gerbrand Willemse and his mother was Jacoba Margaretha Lourens.  His paternal grandparents were Mattheus Willemse and Cornelia Steyn; his maternal grandparents were Johannes Matthys Lourens and Catharina Johanna Swart. He had three brothers and four sisters, named Mattheus Gerhardus, Matthys Johannes, Douw Gerbrand, Catharina Johanna, Cornelia Susanna, Jacoba Margaretha Petronella and Johanna Catharina.  He was the fourth youngest of the eight children. He had nine half-brothers and three half-sisters, named Bernardus Gabriel Petrus, Gerhardus Johannes Jacobus, Bernardus Petrus Johannes, Casper Hendrik Gabriel, Mattheus Gerhardus Petrus, Wynand Johannes, Petrus Bernardus, Wessel Cornelis Johannes, Dirk Petrus Johannes, Susanna Bernadina, Sara Elizabeth Cornelia Johanna and Susanna Hermina Johanna.  He died at the age of 62 on August 3rd, 1880 in Oude Bakoven, Bredasdorp.  He was buried in Napier.2 1
