Daphne's father was Joseph James William Vogel Archibald McKENZIE and her mother was Agnes CLUGSTON. Her paternal grandfather is Joseph James McKENZIE and her paternal grandmother was Jane BENTLEY; her maternal grandparents were John Thomas CLUGSTON and Helena Victoria BURGIN. She had two brothers and three sisters, named Joseph Jonathan Francis, Andrew, Lillian Frances May, Esther Ellen and Agnes Violet. She was the fifth oldest of the six children.
