“KEARNEY—YOUNG
A wedding of wide spread interest. was celebrated at the Methodist Church on Monday last, when Miss Nellie Young (only daughter of Mines Inspector and Mrs Fletcher Young) was Joined in the holy bonds of matrimony to Mr William A Kearney (eldest son of Mrs and the late Mr Kearney of East Brisbane). The Rev C. F. Willms officiated and Mrs Hazard presided at the organ assisted by Mr Eric Lockett (violin) The dainty bride who entered the church on the arm of her father, looked, charming in ivory satin mould ed to the figure and falling in long soft folds, the long gauntlet sleeves of angel skin lace completing the charming costume. She wore a silk tulle veil held in position with satin plaits and orange blossoms and she carried a bouquet of white roses and fern. Miss M. E. Laun of Charters Towers (cousin of the bride) was bridesmaid and looked very smart in pink mariette falling in french pleats from a transparent yoke artistically embroidered in embossed roses. She wore a pink straw hat with ribbon brim and carried a shower bouquet of pink roses and fern. Little Meg. Moores (Mt Isa) was train bearer and looked lovely in a blue frilled georgette frock ornamented with pink, rosebuds and a blue pleated halo head dress, Mr Barlow carried out the duties of best man, The church had been most artistically decorated with baskets of fern tall vases of lovely flowers and an archway of pink and white flowers and horse shoes. As the happy couple left the church Mrs G. Moores presented the bride with a horse shoe and Miss Reeve shower cd them with confetti from a large wedding bell suspended from the doorway of the Church.
After the ceremony a reception was held at the bride's home, Mrs Young receiving her guests in a handsome grey morocain gown with hat to tone and she carried red posy. Sixty guests were entertained at a sumptuous wedding breakfast and speeches were made by Rev Willms, Messrs Young, Hacon Kearney, Locke, Rees Burnup and the bridegroom. The handsome, three tier cake was cut by the bride and handed around to the guests by the bridesmaid.
Mr and Mrs Kearney left by the mail train for the South where they will spend three months holiday, the bride travelling in a blue georgette frock prettily embroidered and hat en suite. Their future home will be in Clermont where Mr Kearney is Stock Inspector.
The popular young couple received many beautiful presents including cheques and telegrams were received from friends all over Queensland.”
