Mary was born in 1846. Mary's father was Nicholas Chapple and her mother was Rosetta. She had three brothers and two sisters, named Nicholas, Joseph, Thomas, Priscilla and Margaret. She was the second oldest of the six children.General Notes
In the 1861 English Census, Rosetta was recorded as living with her husband, Nicholas, as well as looking after their 5 children, Nicholas (17) Tin Miner, Mary Jane (15) Tim Washer, Joseph (13) Tin Drefser, Priscilla (7) Scholar, and Margaret (5) Scholar, all living at Hore Street, Church Town, St Just in Penwith, Cornwell.
Mary Jane Chapel was not at home with her parents in the 1871 Enclish Census.
