Sydney's father was Alfred Ernest Stacey and his mother was Elizabeth Dowling. His paternal grandparents were John Stacey and Mary Ann Brophy. He had three brothers named John, Brophy and Joseph. He was the youngest of the four children. He died at the age of 62 on December 29th, 1969.
