Thomas' father was John Horatio Nickson and his mother was Ann (Anne) C A Clayton. His maternal grandparents were Joseph Clayton and Elizabeth Allmon. He had two brothers named John and Joseph. He was the second oldest of the three children. He had two half-brothers and a half-sister, named James, Arthur and Ann. He died at the age of 64 in 1917 in Sydney, NSW.¹
