- NSW Birth Cert No. 294/1857 states that, in 1857, Thomas H MATTERSON was born in Sydney. His father's name was Thomas N MATTERSON and his mother's name was Elizabeth MATTERSON (nee Clayton).

Thomas' father was Thomas Neales C Matterson and his mother was Elizabeth Clayton. His maternal grandparents were Joseph Clayton and Elizabeth Allmon. He had three brothers and four sisters, named Charles, Joseph, George, Anna, Julia, Sarah and Harriet. He was the second oldest of the eight children. He had a half-brother and a half-sister, named John and Mary. He died at the age of 82 in 1939 in Marrickville, Sydney, NSW.¹
