Martha Elizabeth Clayton

Martha was born on March 19th, 1851 in Sydney, NSW and her baptism took place on April 20th, 1851 in St Philips (CofE) Church, Sydney, NSW conducted by Reverend William Cowper.¹²

- NSW Birth Cert No V185175 37A/1851states that Martha E CLAYTON, was born in 1851. Her father was George CLAYTON and mother was Sarah CLAYTON (nee BATES)

Martha's father was George Clayton and her mother was Sarah Bates. Her paternal grandparents were Joseph Clayton and Elizabeth Allmon; her maternal grandparents were Thomas Bates and Ann Griffin. She had a brother and seven sisters, named Joseph, Lydia, Anne or Ann, Sarah, Julia, Georgina, Polly and Ada. She was the third oldest of the nine children. She died at the age of 32 on October 22nd, 1883 in Ryde, NSW. The funeral took place on October 25th, 1883. She was buried on October 25th, 1883 in Camperdown Cemetery St Stephens, Church St, Newtown NSW.¹¹

- NSW Death Cert No. 7202/1883 states that in 1883, Martha COURT (nee Clayton) died in the district of Ryde. Her father's name was George CLAYTON and her mother's name was Sarah CLAYTON (nee Batea).
