Marion's father was Joseph Richard Clayton and her mother was Elizabeth Ann Grace. Her paternal grandparents were Joseph Richard Clayton and Mary Ann(e) Hayes. She had two brothers and a sister, named Cyril, Horace and Elise. She was the second youngest of the four children.
