Julia's father was George Clayton and her mother was Sarah Bates. Her paternal grandparents were Joseph Clayton and Elizabeth Allmon; her maternal grandparents were Thomas Bates and Ann Griffin. She had a brother and seven sisters, named Joseph, Lydia, Anne or Ann, Martha, Sarah, Georgina, Polly and Ada. She was the fourth youngest of the nine children. She died at the age of 1 on May 10th, 1858 in Newtown area, Sydney NSW. She was buried on May 10th, 1858 in Camperdown Cemetery St Stephens, Church St, Newtown NSW.²³

- Gravestone has the inscription: Julia Jane CLAYTON, 5th daughter of above (George and Sarah CLAYTON), born 22 February 1857, aged 1 year 2 months at the time of her death on the 8 May 1858.

  "On the 10th instant, Julia Jane, fifth daughter of George and Sarah Clayton, Sussex-street, aged 14 months."
  
  NSW Death Cert No. 603/1858 states that, in 1858, Julia J CLAYTON died in Sydney, NSW. Her father's name was George CLAYTON and her mother's name was Sarah CLAYTON (nee Bates).
