Horace's father was Joseph Richard Clayton and his mother was Elizabeth Ann Grace. His paternal grandparents were Joseph Richard Clayton and Mary Ann(e) Hayes. He had a brother and two sisters, named Cyril, Elise and Marion. He was the youngest of the four children. He died at the age of 79 in 1967 in Sydney, NSW.¹
