Elise's father was Joseph Richard Clayton and her mother was Elizabeth Ann Grace. Her paternal grandparents were Joseph Richard Clayton and Mary Ann(e) Hayes. She had two brothers and a sister, named Cyril, Horace and Marion. She was the oldest of the four children. She died at the age of 74 in 1954 in Burwood, NSW.²
