Edith's father was Joseph Richard Clayton and her mother was Mary Ann(e) Hayes. Her paternal grandparents were Joseph Clayton and Elizabeth Allmon. She had three brothers and eight sisters, named Joseph, John, Horatio, Elizabeth, Emily, Julia, Alice, Frances, Mary, Ada and Louisa. She was the second youngest of the twelve children. She had a half-brother named Joseph. She died at the age of 82 in 1955 in Chatswood, NSW.¹
