Sarah Bates

Sarah was born on April 9th, 1826 in Sydney, NSW and her baptism took place on April 30th, 1826 in St Philips CofE Church Sydney NSW conducted by minister William Cowper.¹ Sarah's father was Thomas Bates and her mother was Ann Griffin. Her paternal grandmother was Mary Ann Bates; her maternal grandparents were Michael Griffin and Mary Amos. She had three brothers and four sisters, named William, James, Nathaniel, Lydia, Maria, Ann and Martha. She was the youngest of the eight children. She died at the age of 58 on September 24th, 1884 in 699 Bourke Street, Surry Hills, NSW. The funeral took place on September 26th, 1884 in Residence - 669 Bourhe Street, Surry Hills, NSW and was arranged by H. MASON, Undertaker, 74, Oxford-street. She was buried on September 26th, 1884 in Camperdown Cemetery St Stephens, Church St, Newtown NSW.²³
