James Henry Bates

James was born on June 9th, 1852 in Sydney NSW.¹ James' father was William Bates and his mother was Mary Ann Green. His paternal grandparents were Thomas Bates and Ann Griffin; his maternal grandparents were Amaziah John Green and Mary Ann Chapel. He had four brothers and six sisters, named Thomas, William, Nathaniel, George, Mary, Sarah, Alice, Charlotte, Martha and Maria. He was the fourth youngest of the eleven children. He died at the age of 64 on October 8th, 1916 in Rockdale, NSW.¹
