George was born in 1908 in Queensland.1  George's father was George Worth Hempenstall and his mother was Margaret (Maggie) Sheehan.  His maternal grandparents were Timothy Sheehan and Mary Callaghan. He had a brother and a sister, named Laurence and Cecily.  He was the oldest of the three children.
