    Private MAURICE HEALY - 1360, 2nd Bn., Australian Infantry, A.I.F.
    Died of wounds, on 29 April 1915 having been wounded in the throat and right shoulder near Quinn’s Post on 27th April, 1915. He died on the 29th while he was on board the “Derflinger” on way from Gallipoli to Alexandria and was buried at sea on Friday afternoon 30th April, 1915.

    ”Informant was with Healy when he was wounded near Quinn’s Post on Tuesday (the 27th) morning after the landing. He seemed to have a gunshot wound in the right shoulder.
    Healy was bound up by Private A. King, 2nd Battalion, D. Company, now living in Bucknell Street, Newtown, and by Private Casey, 2nd Battalion, who is living in Balmain and waiting for his discharge.
    Healy was taken to the beach by bearers, and that is the last Informant heard of him.”

    “I carried (the wounded) the second day after landing (landed 25-Apr-1915). He was alone then, seven hours after being hit. I don’t know what happened to him afterwards. He was in my platoon. His people lived in Hurstville, Sydney.”

    “On 29th April, Informant saw Healy on board the “Derflingger” while on way from Gallipoli to Alexandria.
    Healy had been badly wounded, apparently in the throat, and died probably on the 29th and was buried at sea on Friday afternoon 30th April, 1915
    Healy (known as “Ginger”) was short, thick-set, young auburn complexion.”

• General Notes
  • His 1915 diary given to him by his fiance Faith Beauford whose birthday may be on the 21st August (marked in his diary with a heart) describes how the troups travelled from Sydney, North through the Barrier Reef, over to Ceylon and then up to Egypt via the Red Sea. The last entry in his diary is by his friend indicating that he had been wounded.
