Alan's father was Louis Halberstater and his mother was Mary Agnes Sheehan. His paternal grandparents were Adolf Halberstaedter and Ann Feran; his maternal grandparents were Timothy Sheehan and Mary Callaghan. He had two brothers and a sister, named Les, Cecil and Doreen. He was the second youngest of the four children. He died at the age of 57 on October 22nd, 1962 in Sarina, Qld. He was buried on October 24th, 1962 in South Rockhampton Cemetery, RC Section.²
