His paternal grandparents were Alfred Beaumont and Emma Marion Collins; his maternal grandparents were George Smith Kellaway and Catherine (Kate) Morisset. He had a brother and three sisters, named George, Belle, Hilda and Ivy. He was the second oldest of the five children.
