Richard was born on January 20th, 1738 in Glemsford.  Richard's father was Peter MORTLOCK and his mother was Ann MITCHELL.  His paternal grandparents were John MORTLOCK and Elizabeth TIFFEN. He had seven brothers and a sister, named Peter, Richard, Peter, Mitchell, John, Phillip, Thomas and Ann.  He was the fourth oldest of the nine children.  He died at the age of 46 in 1784 in Stansfield.
