Peter MORTLOCK

Peter was born on August 28th, 1698 in Glemsford. Peter's father was John MORTLOCK and his mother was Elizabeth TIFFEN. His paternal grandparents were John MORTLOCK and Elizabeth. He had two brothers and a sister, named John, Richard and Mary. He was the third oldest of the four children. He died at the age of 81 on May 5th, 1780 in Glemsford.

Occupation Details
- From 1757 to 1774 Peter's occupation was Surveyor of the Parish full time in services.
  - Occupation Notes
    - Responsible for the parish roads, lanes and drainage ditches the most avoided post in the village. Under funded, unpaid and with a labour force of usually relief men this was the post to be avoided at all costs. Theoretically he could ask any employer for labourers 2 weeks every year but this help seldom materialized. If a major thoroughfare passed through the village and wasn't turnpiked the job could even carry financial penalties if the road was not maintained
