Sarah was born in 1849 in Thorpe Morieux.  Sarah's father was Reuben LISTER and her mother was Elizabeth ALDERTON.  Her paternal grandparents were William LISTER and Elizabeth WEBB. She had a brother and a sister, named Cornelius and Eliza.  She was the oldest of the three children. She had a half-brother named William.
