Richard was born on September 11th, 1803 in Orpington.  Richard's father was John JEAL and his mother was Susannah WHIFFEN.  His paternal grandparents were William JEAL and Elizabeth TODMAN. He had eight brothers and a sister, named Adolphus, Alpheus, John, William, Charles, Tiras, Phillip, Harvey and Anne.  He was the third youngest of the ten children.  He died at the age of 2 in 1805 in Orpington.
