Charles was born on March 24th, 1799 in Orpington and his christening took place there on April 14th, 1799.  Charles' father was John JEAL and his mother was Susannah WHIFFEN.  His paternal grandparents were William JEAL and Elizabeth TODMAN. He had eight brothers and a sister, named Adolphus, Alpheus, John, William, Tiras, Richard, Phillip, Harvey and Anne.  He was the fifth youngest of the ten children.  He died at the age of 58 in 1857 in London.
