William was born in 1873 in Oldham.  William's father was Harry HALLSWORTH and his mother was Jane UNWIN.  His paternal grandparents were James Robinson HALLSWORTH and Jane; his maternal grandparents were John UNWIN and Mary. He had five brothers named John, George, Harry, Percy and Herbert.  He was the second oldest of the six children.
