John was born in 1780 in Felsham and his christening took place there on March 20th, 1780.  John's father was Thomas GOULD and his mother was Ann BIXBY.  His maternal grandparents were Jeremiah BIXBY and Ann CAWSTON. He had two brothers and four sisters, named Thomas, Bixby, Ann, Ann, Martha and Christian.  He was the third oldest of the seven children. He had two half-sisters named Hannah and Sophia.
