John was born on May 9th, 1844 in St George of the East.  John's father was George Daniel GERMAIN and his mother was Ann GRIMBLE.  His paternal grandparents were William GERMAIN and Jane Susannah WEEMES; his maternal grandparents were Joseph GRIMBLE and Jane KAY. He had three brothers and four sisters, named Alexander, Joseph, Thomas, Jemima, Jane, Jane and Ann.  He died from cancer, of the rectum, at the age of 62 on May 12th, 1906 in Reading.
