Ernest was born in 1898 in Portsmouth.  Ernest's father was Charles Walter FOSTER and his mother was Ellen MAYNE.  His paternal grandparents were Charles W FOSTER and Elizabeth Frances PEARSON; his maternal grandparents were George MAYNE and Unknown. He had a brother and two sisters, named Albert, Lillian and Lottie.  He was the second youngest of the four children.  He died at the age of 73 in 1971.
