William was born on September 29th, 1831 in Shoreditch and his baptism took place there on June 30th, 1837.  William's father was William FIELDING and his mother was Ann CRUMP.  His maternal grandparents were Benjamin CRUMP and Ann. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Charles, George, Ann and Emily.  He was the oldest of the five children.
