Samuel was born in 1850 in Beech Hill.  Samuel's father was Edward COX and his mother was Ann WHEELER.  His paternal grandparents were Richard COX and Keziah HATTO; his maternal grandparents were Daniel WHEELER and Charlotte ALLEN. He had six brothers and a sister, named George, William, John, Arthur, Walter, Albert and Edith.  He was the oldest of the eight children. He had five half-brothers and a half-sister, named James, Alfred, Henry, Benjamin, Edwin and Mary.  He died at the age of 80 in 1930.
